How white-glove shipping works

We come look at the piece, measure, photograph, and discuss timing, route, and insurance.
2. Custom Pack or Crate

When a regular shipper isn't enough
Some pieces don't tolerate the standard carrier experience. Fine art sorting belts, climate swings in unrefrigerated trailers, and the kind of casual handling that turns a $20,000 mid-century chair into a refinishing project — these are the failure modes we're built around. White-glove shipping is a different discipline: we typically build a custom wood crate fitted to the piece, line it with closed-cell foam or honeycomb cardboard, and route the shipment through specialty handlers who don't put crates on conveyor belts. For pieces moving inside Orange County and Southern California we handle pickup, transit, and signature delivery ourselves in a climate-stable van with air-ride suspension. For cross-country and international moves we partner with national white-glove networks (think the same carriers used by Sotheby's, gallery dealers, and high-end auction houses) and stay your single point of contact end-to-end. Insurance is the other thing that changes: standard carrier declared-value caps out around $50K and excludes a long list of fine-art categories; we route those shipments through specialty fine-art insurers that actually cover the asset class.

Do you build the crate yourselves?
For most local pieces, yes — we partner with a local wood-crating shop in Santa Ana and build to dimensions within 48 hours. For complex art crates we partner with a specialty crater used by OC galleries.
What kind of vehicle do you use?
Air-ride suspension Sprinter vans for local transit, climate-stable (within ±10°F of ambient). For cross-country we hand off to specialty carrier partners who use the same vehicle standard.
Can you do international shipping?
Yes — primarily Canada, UK, EU, and Japan. We partner with international art shippers and handle export documentation and customs brokerage. International moves are quoted per shipment.
How is white-glove different from your fragile service?
Fragile is about packing technique and standard carrier shipping with insurance. White-glove adds custom crating, specialty vehicles, signature handling, fine-art insurance, and a single-point-of-contact relationship — for pieces where standard carrier handling isn't acceptable at all.
Do you work with auction houses or galleries?
Yes — we regularly handle consignment moves between collectors, galleries, and auction houses in the LA/OC area, integrating with their existing condition-report and chain-of-custody paperwork.
